Upper Gauley
Keegan’s Falls
INFORMATION
RAPID NAME: Keegan's Falls
RAPID RATING: Class III
RIVER SECTION: Upper Gauley
Also known as Dead Opossum Falls, this short rapid is located just downstream of Iron Ring. It is formed as water pours over a broken ledge. Look for a pointy boulder just to the right of center and enter just to the right of it for some great haystack waves. Watch out for the wide ledge to the left of this rock. It contains a strong backwash and some shallow rocks. There is also a nasty little drain hole sieve lurking over there at the top of the ledge.
