There is a mile long stretch of riffles and shoals downstream of Mason Branch River Access, and through this section the river’s course is fairly straight. Gillespie’s Hole Rapid is located at the first left hand bend in the river with a beautiful cliff wall on the right. It is named after the sticky hole in the middle of the river at the bottom of the rapid. It provides some nice raft surfing opportunities from the accommodating eddy below the rapid on the left.
